Black Folk, Obama and Kamala

all the Black talk and feels about Kamala got me to thinkin’ about us and Obama…

1st Black President. Black folks were quick to “bet-not say nothin’ bad about him”. we coddled and protected him - because white folks gonna white. but we loved on him (and Michelle) so much that we forgot about us. we became more about HIM and less us. no demands. no push. finger to lips-shushed. all in all, we settled for the symbol. a familiar song, sermon and gait. i get it. but we low-key retreated. shrank our politics away from the moment. not all bad. coulda been worse, like now. but WE shoulda demanded more. of him. even more from US.

Short Rant: My Son

For the last 4 or 5 months, I haven’t really liked my son. I use to. Then came 16. And full-tilt teen. To be clear, I love the kid. But there are those fleeting moments where I feel like if I saw shorty in the streets, or in Trader Joes, and I didn’t know he was my kid, but I somehow knew him like I know him now, I might swing on dude.
